Hybrid Signs Contract with George Washington University
Hybrid to Offer High Speed Wireless Internet Access in Washington, DC
Cupertino, CA- March 21, 1994 - Hybrid Networks, Inc. (Hybrid)
announced an agreement with The George Washington University (GW) today to
offer affordable, high-speed wireless Internet access and telecommuting service
to homes, schools, and small offices throughout the greater Washington, DC
area. The Hybrid Access System (HAS) service will be available in the second
quarter of 1994.
Modelled after the HAS currently running in the San Francisco Bay Area, the
Washington, DC network will be capable of speeds up to 10 megabits per second.
Commercial Internet access and telecommuting services will be delivered over a
wireless TV channel provided by GW.
"Hybrid is excited to be working directly with GW in bringing the latest
technology involving the National Information Infrastructure to our nation's
capital," said Howard Strachman, Hybrid's President and CEO.
"With the HAS, GW will place important campus data and other information
on-line. The University and Medical Center will be able to offer
cost-effective remote access to this information throughout the greater
Washington, DC area," said Ted Christensen, Assistant Vice President for GW
Television.

Users of the Hybrid Access System will need to purchase Remote Link Adapters
(RLAs) from Hybrid. An RLA is an external device that receives the high speed
data via wireless or cable and sends it to the remote personal computer over an
Ethernet or SBus connection. The Ethernet RLA Model 110 retails for $1,495.00
and the RLA Model 210SBus is priced at $1,295.00.
Hybrid Networks, Inc. was founded in June 1990 to develop and market high-speed
network connectivity products and services. The Company's Hybrid Access System
(HAS) enables a high-speed digital signal to be affordably received by every
home, school, or office using cable TV, wireless and telephone transmission
facilities.
Hybrid has been testing professional applications on its high-speed network on
a number of TCI and Viacom operated cable systems in the San Francisco Bay
Area. The Company also recently announced a strategic relationship with Intel
Corporation and General Instrument Corporation to utilize its technology in the
development of low-cost consumer oriented applications.
